Battle Rappers Take On Satan: ‘TSS- Lyrical Assassins League’

In a unique and spiritually charged showdown, Christian battle rappers hailing from New York and Connecticut joined forces last weekend to launch the ‘TSS – Lyrical Assassins League,’ where their only adversary is none other than Satan himself.

This league is the brainchild of The Real Frii, a world-record-setting Christian rapper and poet, a name we covered in 2020. What many might not know is that Frii and fellow lyrical assassin Angel previously faced off in the ‘Overflow Rap League,’ a Christian rap battle event spotlighted by Rapzilla in 2018.

Frii’s last appearance on the Overflow stage was in 2019 in Inglewood, California, and since then, he, like other Christian rappers, has shifted away from the traditional battle rap scene, avoiding “tearing down a brother with the pen.” This sentiment has often kept Christian battle rappers from gaining widespread support within the broader Christian community. With the ‘TSS – Lyrical Assassins League,’ Frii aims to channel the same energy and creative prowess found in battle rap, but this time, the target is “our only true adversary, which is spiritual wickedness.”

“It was nice getting a chance to feel that same energy I used to get when battle rapping”, said Frii. Another league member, Rudy, a poet, and newcomer to battle rap culture, stated that he was just excited to be “…a part of something that is truly outside of us.”

The league’s debut event, held at Danbury, Connecticut’s The River Church of God, featured a modest lineup with only three artists: @TheRealFrii, @OfficialAngelTv, and @RudygTheGreat. However, Frii has ambitious plans to expand the roster, welcoming Christian rappers and poets into the fold. The ultimate goal is to tour across the United States, delivering a lyrical onslaught against Satan. The league’s logo showcases a subtle silhouette of what appears to be a ninja, armed with a lethal microphone stand.
