Fresh off of announcing a joint album with Jersey-based artist Kay Sade, and releasing the first single from that project “NEVER ODD OR EVEN,” Independent Toronto rapper Dru Bex comes through with another collaboration. This time in the form of a scorching single with notable producer OnBeatMusic, known for his many production credits for artists such as Derek Minor, S.O., and many other names in the CHH genre.
The single, entitled “SZN 2″ is sonically inspired by Drill Music which originated in Chicago, but in its current incarnation is dominating the UK Hip Hop scene as well as making huge waves in New York due to the late Pop Smoke and his affiliates.
Dru explains…”When OB first played the beat I instantly recognized the drill undertones, but I also knew it was something a little different since it still had that OB signature touch. Either way, it was something that hasn’t really been heard in our space.” He continues ” Growing up in Toronto, we use a slang that is very similar to the UK street slang, since both vernaculars are heavily inspired by the huge Jamaican population in both places.” I wanted to bring a little bit of my culture to the forefront with this one.”
