Today’s Bar Breakdown Devotional is the song “Bruce” by Tre’Gadd.
“Can’t get my wisdom from man
I can’t worship the bands, chasin’ em look like a hamster.”

We’ve all heard the saying before; “money is the root of all evil.” While some may find the statement subjective, there is truth to the statement.
1 Timothy 6:10 tells us, “For the LOVE of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.”
Money itself is not inherently evil; it can do incredible amounts of good in the world. It’s when we make the bands our idols and replace God with it that the effects of chasing wealth can be clearly seen. We end up running in circles for it, chase it, push aside God for it.
As Christians, we live in a time where money is not only a way to purchase goods and do business but it’s also seen as a status. The more money you have, the more respected and envied you are. We must always hold fast to the Lord, have courage, and have the discernment to know whether money has become an idol in our lives.
“But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness.”
1 Timothy 6:11
