Burdened by the police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott in his hometown, Charlotte-based artist Cutright wrote a song titled “The Vent” in its aftermath.

“I am officially 33 years of age today, but I dont feel like celebrating,” Cutright said on Friday. “I’ve been broken-hearted from watching the city I call home tear itself to pieces as my brothers and sisters loot and riot in anger and frustration.

“The narratives told all across the television and social media have become crushing weights over the past few days. We are to weep with those who are weeping and bear each others burdens, but what do you do when those tears are gas induced and the burden is one that people feel is impossible to lift?”
