Today’s Bar Breakdown is “The Race” by Cortes. We learn about being the apple of God’s eye.
“What’s the apple of the eye
What’s been occupying mine?
Father would you help me find out?
Cause I know how this could wind out.”
All too often we find ourselves never good enough and worshipping everything that isn’t God. Whether it’s material possessions, money, over-indulgence, food; even work under the guise of self-satisfaction can become a hindrance and cause us to forget just how good and worthy God is. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:22-23, “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, ”but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!“
The “apple” of our eye should first and foremost always be the Lord. The eyes are the gateway to the mind and the soul. What we see, both good and bad, affects our clarity and understanding of the world around us. Similarly, God sees us, loves us and wants us to look away from things that aren’t glorifying him and focus on him and him through good community and his word!
“But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.“
-Matthew 6:20
