Cruz Cordero Says There’d be ‘No Cross Movement’ without Danny ‘D-Boy’ Rodriguez

Danny ‘D-Boy’ Rodriguez is a pioneer of Christian rap that was murdered in 1990. There’s currently a documentary being made about the mystery surrounding his murder here. Cruz Cordero, one of the founding members of the Cross Movement reached out to the page to share how D-Boy sparked the formation of the group.

“D-Boy was the first rapper I heard. I wasn’t raised in the Church although I’ve visited Church occasionally on special holidays. I’ve seen preachers on the corner handing out tracks. But it wasn’t until my friend Rhonda was listening to music on her headset that I asked her who she was listening to, she said D-Boy. She told me it was a Christian rapper. I had never heard of such a concept. I was curious about how it sounded and so I asked if I could take a listen. To my surprise, it was good music and dope lyrics. It was then that I started to seriously consider Jesus and why he was so important. From there I started to go to Church and the rest is history. Without that day, there would have been no Cross Movement since I was one of the founding members of that group.”
