Derek Minor - Ownership is the new black

Derek Minor Chronicles DC Capitol Hill Meeting with Ownership is the New Black Doc

Over 10 artists went with Derek to DC

Derek Minor founded Ownership is the New Black a few years back, and now the organization was recognized by some of the most important people in the U.S.

“Ownership is the New Black works to close the racial wealth gap by uplifting and amplifying stories that promote Black ownership as a lifestyle. We do this by celebrating current Black owners, educating the next generation of owners, and activating local communities,” the website reads.

So Derek Minor, Mimi McCarley, Propaganda, A.I. the Anomaly, Dee-1, Wande, Aaron Cole, Canon, Ritz McFly, Foggieraw, nobigdyl., Mike Mack, and several others made the trek to the Nation’s capital to talk about the racial wealth gap in America.

The event included several meetings with government officials and white house staff. All of the artists in attendance are business owners and/or entrepreneurs in their own right. They are examples of the equal footing they are trying to bring the rest of their communities to.

Perhaps the most powerful part of this mini-doc was Propaganda’s mom speaking about her own father and the importance these artists have on the future.
