Sevin Remakes 15-Year-Old Song & Gives it Fresh Visual

In 2007, Sevin released three projects; We Die, B 4 I Wake, and The Hunterz Moon Mixtape. The latter project was laced with freestyles over secular beats, including my favorite, “The Storm” which was to a Dr. Dre/Busta Rhymes/Stevie Wonder cover that was insane. Hunterz Moon also included a three verse song that was to a J.R. Rotem beat –  The Game’s “California Vacation.” That song was called “Lyfe I Leave,” and showed Sevin’s ability to rock a laid back beat with a chilled out flow.

Fast forward to June 26, 2022 and Sevin, now retired, has gifted us 15 years later with a remake of “Lyfe I Leave,” with a new flow, a few modified bars, and a longer third verse. The visuals are poppin’ and the new performance fits it perfectly.

The five-minute-long song details the lifestyle Sevin had to leave in order to pursue Christ. The newest lyrics (16 bars worth) that were added to verse three are a nod to Ephesians 2:8-9 (it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not of yourselves, it is a Gift of God not by works so that no man can boast,) they encapsulate the choice Sevin made after God met him where he was, and now Sevin’s life is evidence of God’s grace.

Sevin

“The game’s wretched and it’s fake/How much pressure can I take?/Stressin’ with a case/With this Wesson in my waist/But even with this heat I gotta question if I’m safe/Quick to claim I’m real but I keep effin’ wit these snakes/Needing the blood of Jesus/But can’t seem to eat His message off my plate/Even when they press it in my face/And many tried/Many died from just steppin’ in my state/And fueled my depression my aggression my hate/Yuh, I cried one night and He stepped into my space/He shined His light and I accepted it by faith/And I ain’t good so it wasn’t for my effort or my taste/I’m elected/Only way I kept confessin’ is by grace”
