NFTs, or Non-Fungible Tokens, are digital assets that are bought and sold online, often with cryptocurrency. They sometimes, though not always, correspond to a work of art or an object in the real world. NFTs have been hailed as a new way for musicians to connect with fans and take direct control of the content they produce.
In this case, the NFT collection includes five digital images of shoes, combining shoe culture with Black American historical figures and stories. Czar Josh partnered with OpenSea, as well as Black-owned businesses Blackwater Branding, Nappy Avenue, and Culture Villains for the release. Each digital item features a graphic of a popular shoe from basketball or urban wear culture with a design inspired by moments in Black History that are still relevant today. NFT purchasers will also receive a song download and one free piece of Black History merchandise.
