5 Christian Rap Artists You May Not Have Heard Yet (Luc’s Picks – May 2021)

2021 continues with the dope music in Christian Rap. I’m so encouraged by all the good stuff that’s been dropping and hope you can keep up. The following artists are some that have impressed me recently, I am glad that you’re taking time to listen!

Curt Kennedy

Curt has been around for a minute, but I really feel like he’s hit a creative stride in the past year. He usually releases stuff on Bandcamp, but his newest project, The Drawing Board with The Apologist can be found everywhere. Curt is a east coast pastor/rapper from D.C. and he really goes in with some lines that make you think through your life and how you’re living it out with actions as well as words. Peep his Spotify, or check the video below.

Rio 24k

Rio’s newest project, The Beauty Of Freedom II is on my short list for album of the year, and the versatility found on it is magnificent. Rio showcases solid melodies and skillful flows. A truly gifted artist that I’m excited to keep my ears on this year. Here’s his Spotify, and here’s his newest lyric video:

Freddie Losambe

It’s no surprise to me that Freddie plays guitar. He’s really musical in the choices he makes in his songs. I really feel like his heart translates well to all of the music he creates. There’s an unpolished rawness that comes off as honest and original. His project FM 88 is the latest in a long line of releases dating back about 10 years. I feel like this is the formula to build from. Follow him on Spotify, but listen below first.

Dubem

Dubem has some really unique sounds that show up in the music he’s releasing. He’s really comfortable on the mic, and brings variety to all he does. Right now as far as I know it seems like there’s only singles at the moment. The most recent single is called Misfit. If I were you, I’d stay looking for more from him. Here’s his Spotify, and a dope freestyle below.

Luren Grotto

Luren’s Deep Thoughts EP dropped at the end of March. Man can he rock a mic, and I also appreciate the jazzy vibe that accompanies his music. There’s an organic touch to the instrumentals and hooks he chooses that truly enhance his excellence. You should follow his Spotify, I am sure you won’t be disappointed.

Which of these Christian rap artists are you hearing for the first time?

Luc DiMarzio
Luc DiMarzio
Luc has been a fan of CHH for 30 years, and has been writing about it for just over 4 years. He has a huge passion for amplifying the underground of CHH. When he's not bumpin hip-hop, you can catch him leading worship at his local church, rooting on the Chicago Cubs with his wife, or swimming with his kids.
