We broke back the Rapzilla Awards this year, and more so than creating competition, we just want to honor those who had a great year in 2020. So we are asking you to vote on a number of categories ranging from Artist of the Year, Spotlight Woman of the Year, Album of the Year, mixtape, song, music video, etc.
All the categories are there and the article is up on the site and pinned to our socials. So go on and show some love!
Top Articles of the Year
Last week as we counted down to the New Year, we reshared all of our top articles of the year in multiple categories – Interviews, features, news, and overall. Two of our top stories of the year overall were tragic, the death of TobyMac’s son Truett and the loss of CHH legend Mr. Solo. You also reacted heavily to the news on KB leaving reach and KB signing to Sony.
You guys showed up in droves of support to share the article about Laila Mickelwait and her quest to shut down Porn Hub due to sex trafficking. She’s nearly there…
Then of course there was the FLAME & Katy Perry court saga and a bunch of stories on Lecrae, plus a few more. So thanks for all the clicks in 2020!
15 Albums Dropping in 2021
Our writer Caleb McKinnon looked ahead to post what albums we should be looking to this year. Will we ever get By Any Means by Derek Minor? How about CHH Ain’t Dead Vol. 2 by Datin. Will there be releases by nobigdyl. or Ruslan? Check the article now!
Top Streams of 2020
Ed Boice compiled a list of CHH songs that broke over a million streams last year. Some of these were expected and others were quite a surprise. Check out the article and let us know which of those songs you contributed plays to most!
Sponsored Artist of the Week Chris Trent
Chris Trent is a 25-year-old artist/filmmaker out of Phillipsburg, NJ. He released his first single “We the People” in 2019 and dropped four more singles in 2020. In December, he released his first music video, and on New Year’s Eve, he released his first EP called Sampson Ave.
Chris is an artist who writes out of a place a vulnerability, touching on real-life struggles, while giving hope for perseverance.
Sampson ave is an EP that touches on just that.
The song titled “Sampson Ave” on the same project is a song about childhood trauma, and how kids with rough upbringings can find hope and comfort in Jesus when no one else is there for them.
Chris plans on releasing an album this year and is working on several visual content projects including a 30-second sermon series on IG reels and Tiktok, music videos, and even a virtual concert.
In conclusion, don’t forget to check out all of our playlists featuring the top tracks that dropped on Friday. Start with the Rapzilla Playlist and work your way down.
