“Unsung Heroes of CHH” is a series that highlights producers, engineers, and anybody behind the scenes that helps make Christian rap the way it is. The first installment featured mixing engineer and DJ AC. The second installment features Ritz McCain, the new Senior Editor of Christian & Gospel music at Spotify.

Maritza “Ritz” McCain, better known as just Ritz McCain, is the wife of longtime RMG rapper Canon and has been around Christian Hip Hop and the music industry for a while.

In 2010, McCain got a job at Reach Records as the Operations Coordinator, helping Lecrae’s hit albums Gravity and Anomaly do big numbers. She later moved positions to the Artist & Repertoire manager as she set up recording sessions for the Reach artists.

That job transferred into taking a position at Reach as the Pulsing Administrator, which consisted of Ritz acquiring placements on songs on mainstream television and increasing label revenue on YouTube.

She then moved on to Sony Entertainment where she served as Digital Revenue, Manager, Streaming Strategy Manager, and Associate Director of Digital Partners. McCain then made another jump, this time to Universal Music Group – Capitol CMG as Director of Global Streaming. Capitol CMG is to NF, Social Club Misfits, and Angie Rose.

This led to her next major role – Senior Editor of Christian & Gospel at Spotify! This is huge because it puts an actual Christian and someone familiar with CHH behind the reigns of the Christian playlists curated by the largest streaming platform in the world. The future of Christian music is safe in her hands.

At the moment, she’s never available to do interviews because of the promotion, but we wanted to celebrate with her and her victory! Take a look at the post below:

You’re looking at the new Senior Editor of Christian & Gospel at @Spotify.   That girl, right there in the middle, ME!⁣ ⁣ In honor of this new journey the Lord has placed me on… here is a photo taken 5 years ago on my first visit to Spotify. ⁣ ⁣ My former boss and mentor @taylormadeforthis took me to meet @tumabasa.  At the time I hadn’t met many people in the industry who looked like me AND came from immigrant families.  I left feeling inspired and encouraged to dream bigger, work harder and treat people well while doing it.  I’m thankful to have met authentic and generous people, like these two men, who serve as role models for so many like myself. ⁣ ⁣ A huge thanks to @rachelbwhitney, @ladyjeems, @johnbstein, @jeremyerlich for this opportunity and entrusting me with some of the most inspiring music out there.  And a BIG shout out to the worldwide community of artists and their teams without whom my work would be impossible. ⁣ ⁣ Last but not least, special thanks to my forever roommate lol @getthecanon and my village— family, friends and mentors.  You know who you are.  I would not be who I am today without your prayers, wisdom, love, support and honesty. ⁣ ⁣ I'm excited to help support dope artists and music! ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ❤️🙏🏽
