Welcome to our weekly episode of Rapzilla.com’s Top Christian Rap News Recap. We endeavor to grab the best stories from the previous week and give them to you every Monday.
We’re going to start off with a clip featuring Lecrae that to this point has 2 million views in less than 24 hours. The clip was posted by Nicola Menzie, a former co-worker of mine with the caption: “Pastor Louie Giglio, rapper Lecrae and Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy “had an honest conversation about race and the Church” on June 14. Here’s an example of why words and their meanings matter. “White Privilege” vs. “White Blessings”
Check out the clip & let us know what you think.
The Internet was ablaze talking about this clip and the idea of “white blessings” instead of “white privilege.” Lecrae was on the brunt end of this seemingly more that Pastor Giglio because many felt he should have said something at the time.
Lecrae has since clarified the conversation and its effects and Pastor Giglio has as well. Watch those clips now.
Lecrae masks
Since we’ve been on the topics of racial reconciliation and community work every week, would also like to highlight Lecrae working with Masks for the People to donate 50,000 masks and sanitizing supplies to inmates in Georgia.
We want to give a special shout out to Reconcile who met with the Mayor of Miami, Francis Suarez to speak on improving inequality in our city from juvenile justice reform, improving the civilian investigative panel, affordable housing/government housing, income disparities, land banking in communities of color, community policing, mentoring programs, and black empowerment/ownership.
Rapzilla Freshmen Interviews
We finally dropped our long and awaited 2020 Rapzilla Freshmen group interviews. All 16 of this year’s Freshmen spoke about what it means to be a freshmen and their plans for the future.
LaToria started a series of discussions about racial trauma on Instagram called ‘Who Am I Becoming?’ last week she focused on women, and this week the focus is on men. Here’s a clip.

The 2021 Rapzilla Freshmen list is finally ready! While last year we threw out the rules on the qualifications for being nominated as a Rapzilla Freshmen, this year we decided we needed to set one. Therefore, our NEW RULE is that artists can’t have a retail song that was released before 2017, or older than four years going forward. Paid streaming platforms like Spotify/Apple Music count as retail. The talent pool for considerations was humongous. When sorting through the nominations and votes, we tried to be as objective as possible. The fan vote also weighed heavily on our decision too and […]
Marcus Hollinger, the Senior Vice President of Marketing at Reach Records and the co-founder of Portrait Coffee was a guest on the Plated by Dads Podcast. He joined the Instagram Live show to talk about his coffee roasting company and soon-to-be storefront – Portrait Coffee. Portrait is changing the way the African American community is consuming coffee. This Black-owned business is taking coffee back to its roots – created by black people. In fact, Hollinger says coffee was created in Ethiopia, which is also one of their blends. The coffee company has a number of impressive collaborations and accolades. They […]
Chance the Rapper has been pretty quiet the last few years. His last project The Big Day wasn’t well received and then he seemingly took a break. Whether that was a coincidence or not, we know Chance has been working on his faith, loving his wife, and raising his daughter. Many people took issue with Chance proclaiming Jesus in one breath and spewing profanity in another. Many of those same issues were present with Kanye West in the past. But now Chance has returned with a music video for his song “The Heart & Tongue” and not only is the song […]
Proverbs 18:22 says that “For He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD.” Singer Jack Red, multi-talented artist and filmmaker Rhyan LaMarr, and rapper Datin it was a meeting of the minds. To create a grown man vibe that discusses marriage, falling in love during a time where distance is being celebrated and encouraged was a no-brainer for the three. In these tough times, many are facing, going the extra mile for that special someone is welcomed and well-defined in this coming of age song titled “Distance.” The music video is really a […]

This year has been a very hard one for a lot of us. James Gardin is using these current hard times to inspire art, and to document his journey through those times on his new album I Probably Wrote This While Crying. The single submitted is called “All My Life.” Gardin pulls double duty behind the mic and the boards with his debut album as both producer and artist. This record is a vulnerable journey through the trials and tribulations that come with working through mental wellness and learning to love who you are inside and out. Gardin hopes this […]
TK Lee dropped her new single and music video “My Year” featuring Rokc Solid. It’s off her new project Lane. “This song is a declaration that reminds us of how blessed we are and how far we’ve come. I believe that it’s only up from here and I pray that you receive this very true promise over us all!” Watch TK Lee Below:
