Mr. Solo of Legendary CHH Group Gospel Gangstaz Passes Away [Christian Rap Responds]
Chille Baby of Gospel Gangstaz posted a heartbreaking status this morning that stated his partner in rap, Mr. Solo, had passed on unexpectedly. There are not many details yet, but this news is tragic.
The Gospel Gangstaz exploded onto the CHH scene in the early 90s with their 1994 release Gang Affiliated. Their music elevated the sounds of CHH to that west coast gangsta sound that was dominating the airwaves at the time.
Over the years the group’s influence would reach and inspire many both in music and those in gang culture as they ministered through their real music.
As of late, news came out that they were in the studio or even finished with a record and just waiting for some final touches.
Keep Mr. Solo’s family and the CHH community in your prayers.
Here is what some of CHH is saying about it:
Every time someone showed me Christian rap, it felt irrelevant. I couldn’t connect with the stories. They never talked about what I was going through. @GospelGangstaz were the first to do that for me. Mr. Solo influenced my content immensely. Rest In Heaven and THANK YOU!

After my ma got saved she only let us play gospel & Motown in the house. As a fan of hip hop I was introduced to CHH in 99. I wore this one out & is a big reason why I make music today. Just found out Solo of @GospelGangstaz has passed on. Thank you for your work and legacy RIH. pic.twitter.com/qVydgufTD0

man, this is messing me up. @GospelGangstaz, and solo specifically, changed my life. matter of fact, #savednotsoft can be directly traced back to "vengeance is mine" off of "gang affiliated." i've said solo is top 5 of CHH and that will never be up for debate with me. #RIPSOLO pic.twitter.com/W9HDG7nxZY

Woke up to hearing the tragic news of the passing of Mr. Solo of Gospel Gangstaz … here’s an unreleased song we did years ago & it’s cathartic what he says in his verse. They treated a no name King J Mack with so much love & kindness back in 1995 that it impressed me to always do the same.. I’ll be doing a tribute podcast on them next week but in the mean time if the OGGZ music impacted you drop a comment below… RIP @solodiosse
