In a unique twist for the DC universe, we are given a glimpse into one of its iconic antiheroes lives. This film is the just-released ‘Birds of Prey’.

Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) starts the film off in an entertaining way. There are a lot of jokes and light humor coupled with outstanding cinematography. The look is similar to Suicide Squad and the pacing is solid for the first half-hour. Then it takes a turn; as new characters are introduced, it is apparent the casting was off and the film loses its way. Margot Robbie does a great job throughout but it’s hard to believe any of the other characters.

With the likes of Black Canary and Huntress, you’d expect more action with higher quality. The budget was approximately 97.1 Million dollars, it is hard to see where the money went for the action scenes. The mixed tone of the gritty streets of Gotham with odd eccentric villains and you have a film that falls short on potential.

With a great start in the cinematography area coupled with poor casting and lackluster action scenes, ‘Birds of Prey’ receives a score of 6.5/10.
