Millions of Christians all around the globe are outraged by the Netflix movie ‘The First Temptation of Christ’. This Brazilian-made-movie is a comedy that depicts Jesus Christ as gay with his “first temptation” being an attraction to a man.
Directed by Rodrigo Van Der Put of Porta dos Fundos, the movie has the description of: “Jesus, who’s hitting the big 3-0, brings a surprise guest to meet the family.” This is also not the first time Van Der Put poked fun at Christianity. Last year, he released a film called, ‘The Last Hangover’ where after the Last Supper, the Disciples awoke from a night of drinking to wonder where Jesus went. Obviously, it was a play on the premises of ‘The Hangover’ movie.
A number of Change.Org campaigns were created asking Netflix to pull the 46-minute-film down. One, in particular, has nearly two million signatures (click here). It reads in Portuguese (translated to English):
In favor of banning the Christmas movie from the “Porta dos Fundos” (“Back Door”) which is titled “The First Temptation of Christ.”
In favor of the removal of the film from the NETFLIX catalog and for the “Porta dos Fundos” to be held responsible for the crime of villainous faith.
We also want public retraction, as they have seriously offended Christians.
The movie has been on the streaming service since December 3rd and Netflix has not commented on the subject. As for now, it remains to be seen whether action will be taken.
