Kanye West hits No. 1 in Two Christian Billboard Categories
If you’ve had any access to the mainstream media in the last couple of weeks, you know that Kanye West dropped his latest album Jesus Is King. Upon his salvational conversion to Christianity, Kanye has claimed to be, as he told Jimmy Kimmel, “a Christian everything.” First, he became a Christian. Then, he became a Christian artist. Now, he is a Christian Billboard-topping artist.
According to Billboard, Kanye’s latest project, as of the most recent tally, has come in as the top album in not one but two Christian categories. Jesus is King is the No. 1 in the Top Christian Albums and Top Gospel Albums. This new achievement comes just a little over two weeks after releasing the album.
Jesus is King also holds the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart, Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums, and Top Rap Albums charts. The last Christian Hip Hop artist to come close to this feat was Lecrae with his project Anomaly in 2014, where he held the No. 1 stop in all but the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums. The tally conducted to supply the ranking comes as a sum of album sales and a conversion of audio streams into projected equivalent album sales.
