Welcome to our weekly episode of Rapzilla.com’s Top Christian Rap News Recap. We endeavor to grab the best stories from the previous week and give them to you every Monday.
You know where this is going, we’re kicking it off with Jesus is King. Kanye West dropped perhaps the most talked-about gospel/rap album in a long time. For an entire weekend, Jesus is King was trending. Many of the conversations aside from when the album would finally drop, was, “Is Kanye legit?” Well, yes, yes it is. It appears that all of his interviews weren’t just lip service. Jesus is King is a legitimate gospel/rap album that’s been claimed to be. West’s transformation is evident and it’s encouraging to see where he’s come to.
Only time will tell where he’s going but he said: “he’s only making music for the church now.” He’s trying to live his best life in the eyes of God and is even telling others around him to do so too. When making the album he told those working on it to abstain from premarital and not curse in the studio. This is just the beginning for Kanye West.
TobyMac
From there we move to some truly tragic news. TobyMac, a pioneer in CHH, one of the biggest Christian artists of all-time, is mourning the loss of his son Truett. Many may know his son as tru DOG, the little kid who had a feature on basically all of Toby’s albums. Tru even did a feature for Hollyn and was close to a lot of the younger artists in the CCM community. The 21-year-old was found dead in his home, the cause has not been revealed. He had been working toward his own music career and just performed for the first time the week before. Please keep the McKeehan family in prayers.
Thi’sl
Thi’sl released his long-awaited Small Thing to a Giant, and it’s amazing. Despite all the talk about Kanye, he was not overshadowed and even charted in the top 10. The album is his best work yet and returning from that gunshot is triumphant for him as he gets to exude victory in his music.
John Crist
Comedian and one-time chart-topping CHH artist, John Crist has his own special coming to NetFlix! “I Ain’t Praying for That” comes out on November 28th and that’s amazing! Crist announced the Netflix special while on tour and we got to hear about 1st hand, but it’s been under wraps for a while. Good for John.

Last year, we had Bri Smilez on Community During Chaos. This talk happened around the time Cardi B. and Megan Thee Stallion dropped their song “WAP,” and Smilez had a few strong things to say in relation to that song. Mainstream artists like Cardi, Meghan are modern-day sex idols to Smilez. They represent Satan’s work on how he uses media to corrupt people’s thoughts and beliefs. “The culture that we are indoctrinated by has been strategically assigned and designed to change the biological DNA of our psyche and infiltrate our psyche with Luciferian doctrine.” This is why some people, Smilez […]
Retired NFL player Benjamin Watson went from the gridiron to the silver screen in just over a year’s time. However, rather than becoming an action start like so many former athletes do, he has chosen to tell the important story of life – those who have yet to live it. Watson produced and hosted a documentary called Divided Hearts of America. The film, directed by Chad Bonham, took a dive into what is really happening behind the scenes with abortions and the Pro-Life vs Pro-Choice movement. The concept isn’t new but most platforms that tackle this subject weigh heavily onto […]
This last year was nothing short of turbulent. After the murder of George Floyd, the African American community found their plight and trauma on full display for all to see. The Black Lives Matter movement had taken the country by storm and people who never considered viewing things from a black perspective watched the outcome of racial injustice that went unchecked. Now a year after the death of Sean Reed and Ahmaud Arbery, we at Rapzilla haven’t stopped listening and applying pressure. The following are a few songs from our African and African American staff that emphasize their Black experience. […]
The ESV of Isaiah 44:22 reads, “I have blotted out your transgressions like a cloud and your sins like mist; return to me, for I have redeemed you.” Often believers exclaim phrases like, “God can save anyone! Come as you are! Or the big one, “You’re never too far gone for God.” Has it ever felt like the truth though? I mean think about it, we are a very flawed people. So flawed in fact, that our creator had to send a perfect sacrifice in order to clear our names and allow us eternal life. Still though, amidst biblical evidence […]
Last year, we had Datin on Community During Chaos. During the conversation, Datin reminded the audience to keep their eyes on the end goal as Christians amidst all the current adversity. In his words, obstacles will always come and go. Christians especially, will face hardships in general and personally. Despite it all, however, while addressing issues is needed, the ultimate goal is to focus on Jesus’ second coming and paving the way for this coming. He then brought up 2 Corinthians chapter 11, where Paul listed what hardships he has gone through for Christ. “I’m sure he faced racism. I’m sure he […]
In 2020 TC dropped two projects Promise Land and Manna EP, which was well received by the Christian Hip Hop community. TC aims to start 2021 strong with this new single “Superbia,” available across digital outlets. “Superbia” is the Latin word for pride. The song takes you inside the workings of pride and the ways it tries to hijack your life with its lies and empty promises. Listen to TC Below:
