Aaron Cole is 1st Rapper to Win New Artist of the Year at Dove Awards
Aaron Cole made history last night at the 2019 Dove Awards. The Gotee Records artist became the first person in Christian hip-hop to win New Artist of the Year.
However, this feels problematic for three reasons. One, Cole is so much more than just a hip-hop artist, he’s an incredible singer. So the amendment here is that he’s within the CHH sphere but not limited to rapping.
The second point, despite his age, Cole is no rookie. He’s been killing it in music for some time already. He released his official debut album Not by Chance while signed to a label, and this ultimately propelled him to a victory. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better album debut than this because of its diversity.
The third point is, IT’S ABOUT TIME someone in the Christian hip-hop space won New Artist of the Year. 2015 was close, as NF came in second to a very deserving Lauren Daigle. This year Cole faced stiff competition as he was up against Riley Clemmons, Kelontae Gavin, Josh Baldwin, and Austin French.
