Tobe Nwigwe Freestyles with Black Thought and Mos Def at Roots Picnic

Tobe Nwigwe had a once in a lifetime moment at the 2019 12th Roots Picnic in Philadelphia. During J. Period’s Live Mixtape with Black Thought, Yasiin Bay, Pharoahe Monch, and Black Thought asked Nwigwe to spit a verse. To say the least, he killed it!

Here’s the set up: Toward the end of the night, Roots frontman Black Thought get’s the DJ to throw on the legendary Live at the BBQ instrumental kicking off a verse, then handing the mic over to West Coast legend Monch. While Monch is killing it Black Thought walks over to Tobe who is just watching on the sideline and invites him into the cypher. Black Thought hands him the microphone and lets him loose on the Philly crowd. Tobe kicks a verse from his Tobe From The Swat record that has the crowd buzzing, before passing the mic off to Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def.

Since his appearance on Sway In The Morning back in February early last year, Tobe has been hailed by hip hop purist as the second coming of Andre 3000. Your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper have all showered him with praise, which has gotten him the chance to rock the stage with legends.
