Maryland rapper Corey Wise released a new single with a very relevant message, “Crash.” He spoke to us for our Fast 5 Fridays segment.

1. What is the general message behind this song?
I would say the general message behind the song is “Redemption in Christ.” Drug addiction has become glorified now more than ever, and with the recent passing of Mac Miller I thought it was time to release this track. God put it on my heart a while back after Lil Peep had passed but I needed time to pray on it. So, all in all, it is a story about hope in Jesus even when the world wants us to fail.
2. How did you get inspired to create it?
I was reflecting on how the media always shows the negative but never tells the full story of what that person was going through. I wanted to give a voice for the internal struggle of drug addiction and how Satan wants to drag us down. God gave me a vision of what a new ending to that story would look like if we just gave our burdens and troubles over to him.
3. Who produced the song and how’d the production come about?
Kim Jay Produced it and I believe it was just the vibe of the room honestly.
4. Is this track part of an overall project or a standalone single? What can we expect this song to be the start of?
I wouldn’t say its a part of an overall project. I would say that its the beginning of a new age musically for me. I’ve been known for bangers and thumping tracks but I’ve never let fans into my head. So this song is the intro to my mind and the story behind who I am. My only goal is to dig deeper into my testimony to point people to Jesus!
5. Why should people listen to this song or your music in general?
Man, that’s a good question, I would honestly say that this song “CRASH” doesn’t just speak to drug addiction, but addiction as a whole. It paints a picture of what it looks likes to be vulnerable to God and really say how you feel. So I would say it provides hope, and a shoulder to lean on to those who feel there is no hope. I believe that God has given me the gift to literally preach the gospel in my music one thing I hear a lot is “Dang bro I like how you always talk about Jesus in your music.” So if you listen to Corey Wise you will get Jesus in every line!
