Lord Badu dropped his new single “Livin For,” and answered some questions about it for our Fast 5 Fridays Q & A segment.

1. What is the general message behind this song?
The general theme of this song is a question to the masses (saved and unsaved), asking who they are living for. Sometimes, we get so caught up in chasing our dreams, goals, and everything else that we forget the reason that we are even here. The simple message I am trying to bring across with this single is are you living for yourself, your own desire and ambitions or are you living for God? That’s for you to answer.

2. How did you get inspired to create it?
I got creatively inspired first by hearing a beat from a mainstream artist I came across, and after I heard that instrumental it was as if the beat was telling me what to say. I chose to be obedient to the instrumental and something good came out of it.

3. Who produced the song and how’d the production come about?
This record was produced by my good friend and brother Quinten Coblentz and as I said earlier, I sent him the production I initially wrote too with an acapella and he completely blew my mind with what he came up with. I’d put him head to head with a lot of producers in the game right now.

4. Is this track part of an overall project or a standalone single? What can we expect this song to be the start of?
This track will be a stand-alone single for now, but you can expect a consistent strand of singles by me each month.

5. Why should people listen to this song or your music in general?
People should listen to my music because I speak from a place of experience which is usually relatable to those listening. I am a creative that will give you an experience or feeling from listening to my records. And my life’s goal is to edify, elevate, educate, and inspire and that’s exactly what you will get from me.
