Rapper Dillon Chase just dropped a music video for his song “O.G. (Only God).” It’s from his upcoming project and produced by OnBeatMusic and egomi. We asked him to talk a bit about the song for our Fast 5 Fridays.

1. What is the general message behind this song?

O.G. In the hip-hop culture is the original, the prototype so to speak that we model after. I’m flipping it to mean someone that lives in such a way that only God could be the reason we live in such a way. So if you love God and love people, that’s O.G!

2. How did you get inspired to create it?

I kept getting called O.G. which is uncomfortable to me since I often still feel like a newcomer. I decided to redefine the term to something I’m comfortable being called.

3. Who produced the song and how’d the production come about?

OnBeatMusic and egomi produced it to replace an older track I had. When they sent me the beat I thought to myself – this must be what it feels like to be Andy Mineo and receive pure fire from a producer haha.

4. Is this track part of an overall project or a standalone single? What can we expect this song to be the start of?

This is the lead single to my album coming in September called Joyful Loser. A project where we explore the beautiful but painful process of loss.

5. Why should people listen to this song or your music in general?

People should listen to the song because it will challenge you! One line says I exist for God – He don’t exist for me. That’s a hard pill to swallow but can really change the way we approach life!
