Creed 2 Trailer Released

Creed was a surprise smash hit spinoff of the Rocky series of films. It arguably launched Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Cooglars’ careers. Today, we get a trailer for Creed II and if it doesn’t make you hype for the sequel nothing will.

Loyalty. Got Royalty Inside My DNA

From the very first moments of the trailer, the tone is set, and the story is set up. Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan), the son of Rocky Balboa’s legendary opponent Apollo Creed, is now a father himself. In what seems like a cycle that Adonis can’t get past, the villain of the film will be Viktor Drago, the son of Ivan Drago. The son of the man that killed his father.

In Rocky IV, Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) stood toe to toe with Apollo Creed and killed him in the ring. Now, 30+ years later, Adonis has the chance to make things right in his eyes.

Can The Stars Still Shine

The sequel is co-written by Sylvester Stalone. The first movie saw Coogler and Aaron Covington behind the keyboard. Only time will tell if the Creed II screenplay can hold the same weight as the first film.

There’s a new director in the chair this time as well. Steven Caple Jr. makes his major motion picture debut here. He is responsible for “The Land,” a critically lauded indie flick from 2016 about a skate crew caught up in some local organized crime. We’ll see if he can handle the heavy lifting that comes with Creed II’s pedigree.

Here’s the official synopsis from Warner Bros.

Life has become a balancing act for Adonis Creed. Between personal obligations and training for his next big fight, he is up against the challenge of his life. Facing an opponent with ties to his family’s past only intensifies his impending battle in the ring. Rocky Balboa is there by his side through it all and, together, Rocky and Adonis will confront their shared legacy, question what’s worth fighting for, and discover that nothing’s more important than family. Creed II is about going back to basics to rediscover what made you a champion in the first place, and remembering that, no matter where you go, you can’t escape your history.

Creed II hits theaters on Nov. 21, 2018.
