Hawaii rapper Thomas Iannucci and Tongan-American artist seni. have teamed up to release a powerful new track, “Kuleana (Paradise).” The song, produced by J. Crum, tackles a subject rarely touched on but deeply personal to both artists: the rampant drug addiction, suicide rate, and violence within Hawaii and the broader Polynesian & Pacific Island community. “My whole life I was told that Hawaii is supposed to be some sort of perfect paradise,” said Iannucci in a statement. “But looking around me, I never saw paradise. I saw a lot of pain, and drug abuse, and I even saw a lot […]
Thomas Iannucci has partnered with up and coming rap & pop artist Montythehokage to release their new single, “Take Me Back,” featuring the Kapa’a Middle School Choir. Produced by veteran hip hop producer and emcee J. Crum, “Take Me Back” is a catchy, soulful tune that finds Iannucci reminiscing about the “good old days,” like the times spent out at the beach, or having dinner with his extended family, while Monty, backed by the local Kapa’a middle school choir, croons about wanting to go back to those days. It is both a unique snapshot of a life spent in Hawaii, […]

On August 23, Andy Mineo released a musical-podcast hybrid called Work in Progress. The project is unlike any released by the artist before, compiling several unreleased tracks into a single release with a podcast series used to create additional conversation. Whereas Mineo’s earlier releases accounted for a single season, Work in Progress gives listeners a more complete display of Mineo’s artistic evolution. Whether it be the fear of aging, a celebration of marriage, or musical experimentation, the album is a thematic feast and might be Mineo’s most powerful project yet. Perhaps the most crucial element of Work in Progress is […]
NF recently sat down for a conversation with Ill Will at NME.com this week. Being someone who tends to be pretty vulnerable on the mic, NF found some space here in front of a camera to be real. Considering himself to be a quite negative person and preparing for the worst, NF says he finds it thrilling that he outsold Chance The Rapper’s debut album ‘The Big Day’ in the first week of sales with his new album The Search. Nate also shares how his perception changes the older he gets. He looks back on the song How Could You Leave Us […]
An all too common storyline in hip-hop has become the untimely passing of its brightest stars. On December 8th, a freshly 21-one-year-old Juice WRLD overdosed on Percocet pills at an airport. In 2018 XXXtentacion was killed in a car shooting and Mac Miller overdosed. The year before that, Lil Peep died of an overdose. “We have got to change Hip-Hop it wasn’t made to glorify drugs, objectify women and promote violence. It was meant to give a voice to the oppressed. Yet the music we make today oppresses our own people and paints the image that all of this is […]

Wordsplayed was recently a guest on NBC’s ‘Off The Dribble’ on ‘NBA Hot Takes’ segment. The rapper was a natural fit as host Jaques Slade bounce passed topics for him to shake up and slam over his self produced tracks. His humorous bars included a pitch for Carmelo Anthony to come back to the Knicks and mentioned Allen Iverson as the “Answer” to the 76ers championship woes. This is a great look for Wordsplayed to be on NBC, which could possibly lead to more opportunities for the culture in the future. Check out the segment below. Watch Wordsplayed Below: Let's […]
Von Won dropped his 23-track album wet paint 3: Church Socks and Jordans featuring a who’s who of Christian rap. Some of the notables are Tedashii, Dru Bex, and Bryann Trejo. “Church Socks and Jordans is a continuation of my Wet Paint mixtape series and it only seemed right to honor that hip hop tradition with my take on a classic cut. I like to say I’m ‘raptizing’ the original,” Von Won said of single “Dear Von.” Von explained the “Wet Paint” title is not only a nod to the candy-colored slabs of Houston’s car culture, but it’s also a way to acknowledge that […]
