Rapzilla.com’s 15 Freshman of 2017
Like the previous Freshman, a barrage of singles gained Charles Goose attention this past year. His sense of humor helped keep fans’ attention.
The Los Angeles-based emcee credited Social Club Misfits DJ Ray “Rock” Castro with his rise, which involved seven song placements on Rapzilla.com in the past year and 13 in the last two.
When did you decide that you wanted to pursue music?
Music has always been part of my life. My parents put me through guitar, drum, flute and piano lessons between the ages of 8-13, but I never had much interest in them, so I quit them all. But yet, I loved music.
My parents wanted the best for me and wanted me to pick up a hobby that would benefit me, but I deviated away from their desires and fell in love with writing rhymes and, soon after, making hip-hop music. I recorded my first song as a non-believer in 2004 at the age of 15, and I would get a lot of compliments on how I sounded so I kept going. In 2007, I gave my life to Christ and switched everything up, and now I’m here.
What has been the most memorable moment of your career so far?
Back in 2012, Ray Rock discovered my music on Instagram, and I was super excited because I knew he was Andy Mineo’s producer and best friend! He said he liked my music and wanted to help me out.
Ray took me under his wing, mentored me and helped me get to where I’m at today. He also produced a few tracks that are flying around. I’m truly blessed to have a friend like him — don’t know where I’d be without him.
What should fans be on the lookout for musically from you in 2017?
2016 was an excellent year for me. I dropped a handful of singles throughout the year, and I was placed on Spotify’s Viral Hits playlist, which has over one million followers. I was also placed on the Top 50 in the USA playlist on Spotify, which is also a pretty big thing and got to work with wordsplayed.
2017 is in God’s hands. I have many plans and goals I wanna reach, but one thing is for sure, the album is coming. I’ve linked up with a lot of dope artists that I’m excited to work with — a lot of major moves on the way. Just know.
