Cross Movement on the state of Christian hip hop and more

At Legacy Conference 2016, Rapzilla interviewed Cross Movement members The Ambassador, T.R.U.-L.I.F.E., Phanatik, Cruz Cordero, The Tonic and Earthquake after receiving the Legacy Lifetime Award and performing their first concert together since 2008.

They said the reunion could soon spark other collaborative efforts from the group. Their first album since 2007 has been considered. A tour is more likely.

“I’ve thought [an album] would be a good thing or an interesting challenge,” The Tonic said. “Again, not sure if it would work, but it’s something I’d be excited about trying. … Where we’ve landed is on stuff like, ‘Oh, we feel like we could tour. We feel like we could do stuff like this, a reunion event.’ But as far as an album, it’s a bit of a monster, so we haven’t finished talking about it.”

Whether Cross Movement records new music or not, group members still desire to speak into hip-hop culture. In the interview, they discussed what it means to be a missionary to hip hop, lessons they learned that younger artists should be aware of, the state of Christian hip hop and more.
