Christian music pioneer and hip-hop leaning artist TobyMac, took home his third solo Grammy Award (7th overall – DC Talk), for his album This is Not a Test in the Best Contemporary Christian Music Category.
Toby was also nominated for a Grammy in the Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song category for his song “Feel it.”
This Is Not A Test debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200, No. 1 on the Christian Albums Chart and No. 3 on the Digital Albums Chart.
Chris Tomlin’s Love Ran Red, Lauren Daigle’s How Can It Be, Jason Crabb’s Whatever The Road and Matt Maher’s Saints And Sinners were pinned against the Gotee Records founder for the award.
“Feel It” featuring Mr. Talkbox, went up against Crowder’s “Lift Your Head Weary Sinner (Chains),” Third Day’s “Soul On Fire,” Francesca Battistelli’s “Holy Spirit” and Matt Maher’s “Because He Lives (Amen).” Battistelli ultimately took home the award.
The other Christian category winners were: Israel & Newbreed “Covered Alive in Asia [Live] (Deluxe)” for best Gospel Album, Kirk Franklin’s “Wanna be Happy” for Best Gospel Performance/Song.
The 2016 Grammys aired live on Feb. 15 from Los Angeles’ Staples Center on CBS.
