Yaves’s Sling Shot record label signs Dwight Junior

Sling Shot Music Group, a Columbus-based record label owned by Yaves, has announced the signing of a new artist, Dwight Junior.

“I believe in artists who want to do more than just make music,” Yaves said. “Your life should scream ministry, you should be focused on growing your community, changing the social fabric of the culture and letting the music provide a platform to do such. We believe that Dwight Junior embodies that.”

“Yaves was very genuine with me,” Dwight Junior said. “I sat back and watched the game before I jumped into it, so when he approached me about signing with SSMG, I already had a plan and trusted him to help me carry it out. I’m excited for the future!”

Dwight Junior — an artist, producer and engineer who met Yaves while he attended Valor Christian College just outside of Columbus — will release a mixtape titled Runaway on Feb. 5. Pre-order it on iTunes.

In Feb. 2015, Dwight Junior lost his mother to a suicide. Read Rapzilla’s feature story on how he survived thoughts of his own suicide.
