Stephen Curry’s new Under Armour shoe commemorates Bible verse
Stephen Curry, one of Christian hip-hop’s most supportive professional athletes, is set to release another shoe influenced by his faith.
In February, Under Armour released the Curry One, which featured the tagline “Charged By Belief” and 4:13 on the tongue, a nod to Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
Stephen Curry won an MVP award and NBA championship wearing Curry One’s, and this week, Under Armour announced plans for his latest shoe.
The Curry Two
The Curry Two will release in China on Sept. 6, Japan and the Philippines on Sept. 7, and globally on Oct. 24, according to Champs Sports.
Like the Under Armour Curry 1, the shoe features an updated Charged midsole adding UA SpeedForm to the upper, with a multi-directional sole for more traction.
The slogan for the Curry Two is “Iron Sharpens Iron,” a Biblical reference even more obvious than the previous.
Proverbs 27:17 reads, “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.”
In the video announcement, we hear Sway and Heather B. talking about the Golden State championship.
They talk about the impact Stephen Curry had on the run but also what he might do after winning the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
This conversation takes place over cut together shots of someone with a broom sweeping up the confetti from the parade in Oakland celebrating the win.
And in the final moments, the camera pulls back to reveal that instead of kicking back and relaxing, Steph is out there cleaning up and getting ready for the next run.
Under Armor has seen a ton of success since Curry signed on and we’re glad to see that they’re letting him be him.
By allowing him to reflect his faith so vividly, UA is tapping into a market few knew existed.
