Erica Campbell: ‘More Caucasian children gravitate to Christian hip hop’
Erica Campbell, one half of the four-time Grammy Award-winning gospel duo Mary Mary, made an interesting claim about Christian hip hop this spring in an interview with CNikky.com as she explained her popular single “I Luh God.”
“I just wanted to have fun and declare my love for God, and, at the same time, reach an audience that I think sometimes the gospel community ignores,” Campbell said. “There is Christian hip hop, but it seems like more Caucasian children gravitate to it.”
The title track of Campbell’s album Help, which she dropped in 2014, featured Christian hip-hop artist Lecrae and earned a nomination Best Gospel Performance/Song at the 2015 Grammy Awards. It lost to Smokie Norful’s song “No Greater Love.”
