What is Flavor Fest:

The vision for Flavor Fest began to unfold in at Crossover Church in 1999 as people began to constantly call, email and visit from all over the country. They began hearing about Crossover Church’s unique ministry through Urban D.’s (Pastor Tommy) first national Hip-Hop release, “The Missin’ Element.” The inside of the CD jacket had some pictures and information about their Urban Youth Ministry as hundreds of lives were being changed. God began to birth the vision for Crossover to host a Urban Leadership Conference for church leaders.

A few hundred people attended the very first Flavor Fest in November of 2000. The conference has continued to grow each year as over 3,000 leaders have been trained and close to 20,000 people have attended the concerts. Over the years Flavor Fest has become known as the premiere event for the Christian Hip-Hop Community. The goal has always been to equip pastors, church planters, youth pastors, youth workers, church leaders, and artists to better reach this culture with the gospel. We’ve seen incredible fruit as dozens of churches have been planted and hundreds of existing churches have been equipped to be more effective in their communities.

Crossover Church’s purpose statement in the constitution and bylaws includes that the church’s purpose is to reach the urban community with the gospel in the Tampa Bay area and also “provide training, resources, and guidance for other ministries in the urban context.” Flavor Fest is a major launching pad for fulfilling this part of Crossover’s purpose along with partnerships, speaking engagements and coaching.

As we see demographics shifting to become more multi-ethnic and more urban, there is a huge need for church planting in the urban context. Flavor Fest gathers urban church leaders and future leaders to train them to meet this need. They are trained by Crossover’s staff and other solid ministry leaders from around the country. It’s an amazing weekend of learning, collaboration, inspiration, networking and fellowship.
