Chances are strong you’ve heard of Texas Native Tobe Nwigwe, or “Tobe from the SWAT” (South West Alief Texas) by now, but if you haven’t, you should. Starting from the ongoing #getTWISTEDsundays series and inclusion in the 2018 BET Cypher, Nwigwe has enjoyed a meteoric rise in a relatively short time, and for good reason. Nwigwe has been recognized by mainstream and CHH figures alike, to include Dave Chappelle, Erykah Badu, Black Thought, Lecrae, and more. His “Tobe from the SWAT” tour stopped at The Fillmore in Silver Spring, Maryland where DMX played just the night before. Flashing lights and smoke machines set the […]

For the first time ever, the Rapzilla Beat Battle was hosted at A3C in Atlanta, Georgia. The event saw a packed house at Aisle 5 with hosts Butta P and R-Swift. Derek Minor doesn’t care anymore. He’s a man that is perfectly in focus and feels the tug of God on his purpose. He doesn’t care about what you think of him. He doesn’t care about receiving any awards, accolades, or recognition, and he doesn’t care about the industry’s politics. Derek Minor only cares about YOU. Derek and I are sitting in the makeshift greenroom of Church City USA in Jamaica Queens, NY. The church sits in the middle of hip-hop’s hollowed grounds and is pastored by Christian Rap NY legend Richie Righteous. Fellow RMG labelmate Canon is in the room […]
Reach Records’ newest signee WHATUPRG dropped his much-anticipated follow-up to Pleasant Hill with Raul. The former was deeply personal for RG. The latter, even more so. Much of the reaction to his project has been positive as he dove deep into his REAL LIFE issues with immigration and the loss of his father to deportation taking center stage. However, there has also been a lack of empathy and backlash toward his family’s plight that is a bit concerning. RG’s emotions are on full display from the opening lines of, “I was just a kid when my dad got deported/ Ever since then everything […]

So on this Easter Sunday, as I prepared to watch the live stream of Sunday Service by Kanye West at Coachella, I waited with excitement because I had seen the previous clips on the internet and I wondered how they would execute it on such a big stage. I also had previously seen Kanye live during the Late Registration Tour and the Yeezus tour, both being some of my favorite all time concerts, so I knew the caliber of his showmanship. As I watched, I noticed some issues throughout the set with sound. Teyana Taylor at one point had her […]
