A two-hour trek through the horrendous NYC traffic to Queens, New York brought me to City Church USA to rock with God Over Money on September 21. The main tour features label head Bizzle along with Datin, Selah the Corner, and Jered Sanders. Most dates feature special guests and this night we had fellow New Yorkers Th3 Saga and Angie Rose. City Church USA is a little building in the middle of a Queens neighborhood. Although the church was small, the sanctuary was ripe with potential for an intimate and personal show experience. At around 7:00 p.m. people started pouring in for […]
On Friday, September twenty-first, Andy Mineo dropped his second EP of the year. The project, II: The Sword, gave Mineo the space to reflect and respond to his critics in an open manner. From track one, “Almost…” to track seven “Shame,” Mineo takes listeners with him on a journey of recovery following the pain of I: The Arrow. After a season of great doubt, Mineo has started to realize the reality of God’s presence around him. The next stage of his journey has forced the Miner League founder to kill who he once was, allowing a new, more faithful, more […]
20 years ago today, on September 22, 1998, Kirk Franklin, a small, radical, man from Fort Worth, Texas, released the Gospel classic and Grammy-award-winning, The Nu Nation Project. This is an album I remember vividly being played on full blast as a kid, as my Dad belted out every lyric, often not in key — but often just as enthusiastically as Kirk and The Family in the background. Kirk Franklin was, “part of the first wave of gospel artists to take the sound and attitude of hip-hop seriously and incorporate them into their work.” Kirk Franklin has a larger than life profile […]
Throughout history, the damaged mental state of artists has been well-documented. Artists across multiple mediums have found themselves susceptible to depression, insomnia, bipolarity, thoughts of suicide, and many other issues. With the recent passing of Mac Miller, it is more apparent than ever that self-care is key to the lifestyle of creatives. Being that Rapzilla is a Christian hip-hop website, it is important for us to encourage artists to seek help within the scriptures and in modern day psychology. We want Christian Hip-Hop artists to know that they are not alone. We are with them, and more importantly, God is […]
Astroworld by Travis Scott, much like an amusement park, is chaotic. The album has proven to be an enjoyable ride for many of Scott’s fans but alienates others due to the inconsistent nature of the project’s sound and content. This erratic pattern appears to be an analogy for the type of life the artist used to live. Plagued by drug addiction, experiencing the cost of fame, and rivalries within hip-hop, Scott’s existence had become a brutal one. Lost in uncertainty, addiction, and fear, Scott’s album proves that sin has consequences, but there is a path to repentance. ***This article was inspired […]
Eminem dropped a surprise album at midnight called Kamikaze and the emcee returned to form by dissing everyone in site. This includes NF. So, Eminem disses NF on “The Ringer?” Let’s discuss. ***UPDATE AT BOTTOM*** After taking shots at Lil Yachty, Lil Pump, and trap rap Em says this: It’ll help me get back to myself and she’ll love me (ooh-ooh) I mailed the b**** back and said if I did that I’d just be like everyone else in the f****** industry Especially aN eFFing Recovery clone of me” Now say that last line slowly…an effing Recovery clone. NF-ing Recovery clone. […]

KB hugged his wife in bed after awaking from a nightmare. In his dream, she wasn’t there. His kids weren’t there. They had left him, because he had left God. His eagerness to glorify God in his music had slowly but surely faded as his eagerness to build a platform intensified. It was just a dream. But maybe KB wouldn’t have been as shaken by his dream if it wasn’t so realistic. He’s self-aware enough to know that he’s capable of being ensnared by the same temptations that have caused other artists to drift from the Christian faith. “My greatest […]
Ian Kenville released the first single “100K” from his upcoming album ‘Maybe I Was Wrong’ expected to drop in the Fall. “Music’s changed everything for me. When I started recording and dropping songs 2 years ago, I wanted to be rich, famous, and popular. Over the past 2 years, I’ve learned what really matters. I’ve been heart broken, I’ve been broke, I’ve had bad songs, I’ve had bad live performances- I’ve failed. But, I’ve grown, I’ve tour’d, I’ve learned, and now, I’mm starting to make an impact. I love my friends (the real ones), and I have no regrets. If […]

Ike Hill and Cutright of the JustHis League Music Group are going on their second nationwide tour, visiting 300 schools in 40 states. Their last tour, Realize Anything’s Possible, reached over 120,000 people and even received recognition from local government officials. There are countless stories about how they impacted students who thought about suicide, who were cutting, in poverty, suffering from depression, and how they helped them realize that there is hope beyond their circumstances. The goal of this year’s tour, LIGHTS ON, is to let people know they are the light of the world and to activate that light to […]
