An all too common storyline in hip-hop has become the untimely passing of its brightest stars. On December 8th, a freshly 21-one-year-old Juice WRLD overdosed on Percocet pills at an airport. In 2018 XXXtentacion was killed in a car shooting and Mac Miller overdosed. The year before that, Lil Peep died of an overdose. “We have got to change Hip-Hop it wasn’t made to glorify drugs, objectify women and promote violence. It was meant to give a voice to the oppressed. Yet the music we make today oppresses our own people and paints the image that all of this is […]
Trials and heartbreak are kind of like getting on a train. After they happen you can’t stay the same. You have to be transported. At the station, you hold your ticket, a promise of another place – one you hope will bring new joy or help ease what you feel right now. Yet, it’s the only paper in your hand. It feels perfectly meaningless at the moment. All you can see are the tracks, riddled by the miles, worn by the endless trips from here to there. Then your eyes meet the beast – a smoke huffing, grimy steel engine […]
For weeks, indie tribe. founder nobigdyl. promoted the follow-up to his 2018 album, SOLAR. Releasing singles such as “EMCEE HAMMER,” “Fragile,” and “Energy,” as well as collaborating with fellow Christian rap artists 1K Phew, Canon, Jon Keith, and Steven Malcolm throughout 2019 has kept the former Capitol CMG artist busy. Still, nothing could compare to the release of LOWERCASE TAPE. Touted by Dyllie as a mixtape rather than EP or album (more on the distinction here), the project assembles a proverbial “who’s who” of artists. Nonetheless, it is never weighed down by the features, instead, focusing on the “…feeling of […]
If you need a little push or motivation into the next step of your career, creative endeavor, or just to get some encouragement from people pushing through the same things you are – Christian rap has got you covered. This community does something well that I’ve always sought from other places of music and artistry. It allows you to know people’s stories. Fame does this uncomfortable thing where it strips people of their humanity and places them on a pedestal. When the reason most people are famous is in part is because of their story. Yet, money and clout get […]
Every year Veterans Day is celebrated across the U.S.A. to honor those who served in the military for our country and to remember those lost. Christian rap is a smaller platoon but there are several artists to thank today. Doc Watson Let’s kick it off with Doc Watson. Although not an artist per se, he is responsible for many of the artists we love and know today. He started out as a producer but saw the talent in Derek Minor and decided to push toward that. Eventually, the pair would create RMG. Wordsplayed What’s not to like about Wordsplayed? He […]
On August 23, Andy Mineo released a musical-podcast hybrid called Work in Progress. The project is unlike any released by the artist before, compiling several unreleased tracks into a single release with a podcast series used to create additional conversation. Whereas Mineo’s earlier releases accounted for a single season, Work in Progress gives listeners a more complete display of Mineo’s artistic evolution. Whether it be the fear of aging, a celebration of marriage, or musical experimentation, the album is a thematic feast and might be Mineo’s most powerful project yet. Perhaps the most crucial element of Work in Progress is […]
NF recently sat down for a conversation with Ill Will at NME.com this week. Being someone who tends to be pretty vulnerable on the mic, NF found some space here in front of a camera to be real. Considering himself to be a quite negative person and preparing for the worst, NF says he finds it thrilling that he outsold Chance The Rapper’s debut album ‘The Big Day’ in the first week of sales with his new album The Search. Nate also shares how his perception changes the older he gets. He looks back on the song How Could You Leave Us […]

Marqus Anthony & Xay Hill dropped their joint album 50 Shades today. It features production from B-Coe, ICE Beatz and Until Completion as well as features from R-Swift and Jazmine Nikao. “The EP details a variety of emotions as these young men spill their hearts. Transparency abounds as they address feeling gray. Ultimately, no amount of alcohol, drugs, money or women can bring color into their life painful lives. Jesus is the only solution to finding peace and hope in this dark and dreary world.” Listen to Marqus Anthony & Xay Hill Below: Buy or stream here.
Theo Blue dropped a new single featuring Jarry Manna called “Not Me.” “I’ve been in relationships where both people are together: laughing, smiling, going on dates but one of them is not as interested in the other. And what’s interesting is that they both know it. They both know it isn’t going to last. They both know that deep down one of them does not feel the same. God is the One interested. We don’t feel the same.” Click here to buy or stream this song on any platform Listen to Theo Blue – Not Me below:
