“Holy hip-hop artist” jailed for child molestation

A South Carolina man claiming to be a “holy hip-hop artist” and a “youth minister” was sentenced to five years in prison Wednesday after pleading guilty to molesting a 3-year-old while living with the child’s mother last summer.

Damien Brown, 30, was allegedly in the city working on a hip-hop video in June 2007 and was invited to live in the woman’s home, said court documents read during the sentencing in New Britain Superior Court. It wasn’t specified in court if the woman was dating Brown when she allowed him to move in.

“Mr. Brown is far from what he wants people to believe,” said a victim’s advocate reading aloud a letter written by the child’s mother. “Underneath his man-of-God image is a man with no conscience, a swindler.”
