Review – Da’ T.R.U.T.H. ‘The Faith’

Da’ T.R.U.T.H. is an emcee’s emcee.  He’s the type that makes other rappers step up their game.  From the time that he stepped up to the mic on “The Light” with the Ambassador, Da’ T.R.U.T.H. has proven to be an emcee with a potent message and a relevant style/steez that would appeal to the 21 Century hip hop head.  On The Faith, Da’ T.R.U.T.H. does not disappoint.  Like a preacher released from the pulpit to minister the message of Christ on the grimiest blocks of Philidelphia, Da’ T.R.U.T.H. spits the theologically sound message of The Faith for today’s hip hop culture.

As with his debut record (2003’s Moment of Truth), Da’ T.R.U.T.H. displays his addictive cadence on songs like “Our World” and “Go”.  “Legacy” is a song that grips you, as he speaks on the tragedy at Columbine High School, in which two Christian students were killed after professing their faith in Christ.  Along with other past martyrs, he makes you question whether you, as a believer, would do the same.

“Civilian” – all I can say about this joint is that it is MEEAAANNNNNN!!!  The gritty rock inspired guitars, along with the slow flow of Da’ T.R.U.T.H. slows the song down just enough to give you a chance to hear the message about idol worship in today’s fast pace society.  “2 is Better” is a smooth track featuring J.R., which exhorts Christians to lift each other up, and really behave as a Body that needs every member.

In all, Da’ T.R.U.T.H. and the Cross Movement fam continue to bring quality projects to the table of hip hop.  It is up to the community to take a bite and receive a nourishing meal, or continue to be fed unhealthy snacks from today’s popular music.  As with most CM records, I would like to hear more organic sounds in the production (as heard in the The Faith’s hidden track).  But needless to say, pick up The Faith and spread The Faith because it is definitely worth it!

*On a side note, I don’t know who Kera and La Tia are, but that interlude that they laced was jazzy, phat and nastee (trust me, this is a compliment).  I’m looking forward to hearing something from them in the future.
