Hip-hop music has been blamed by the government and media as being a key factor for influencing violent youth culture in the UK. Christian rap artists are giving the genre of music a whole new influence.
Rap, garage and grime music are constantly accused of being a major factor in gun and knife crime on our UK streets - because of some of the lyrics and images that glamorise guns, gangs and a get rich quick lifestyle.
However, urban Christian hip-hop/grime music that contains messages of hope, faith and the philosophy of turning the other cheek is emerging on a big scale as being an effective tool used to engage with young people, and be part of the solution to the escalating violence in our inner cities.

Can Christian hip-hop make it in Green Country's urban markets? If local rapper Fedel has anything to do with it, yes it can.
Last week, his newly minted single, "Tell a Friend," was voted the No. 1 song on Tulsa's 105.3 KJamz nightly top eight countdown. "Being that I'm a Christian artist — a Christian hip-hop artist at that — this is a huge accomplishment that I don't take for granted," he said in a recent e-mail to the Tulsa World. He thanks primetime DJ, Ramal, for the break.

Braille also announced that every now and then he is going to throw rough drafts, features and exclusives up on his myspace. Sharing new music fresh after he creates it.
The lights dim over the standing room only crowd. The room is thick with an air of anticipation. A voice sprinkled with strong vibrato and a touch of old school R&B rings out. The crowd goes wild! The voice rings out again, this time with twice the intensity. The crowd screams as the young, but clearly seasoned artist known as Canton Jones points the microphone toward the audience and another unforgettable musical experience begins…Add a comment
The music business in Nigeria is changing as Evangelists turn from traditional gospel music to mainstream to ensure that the Gospel itself is spread to as many as possible through Hip-Hop. One of the acts involved in this new wave of Gospel is the Rooftop MC’s, which consist of two young men called Kunie Adeyoola (Soulsnatcha) and Olaitan Hughes (Sokleva).
Both grew up with spiritual influences that made them gravitate towards the music industry, and they decided that their sound would be Hip-Hop and their lyrics Gospel.Add a comment

In January of 2008, gospel rapper Lavoisier released an explosive video on YouTube that quickly became the center of controversy among hip hop supporters and detractors alike. The fifteen minute video, entitled “Rap Terrorist Goes To School,” featured Lavoisier in a Brooklyn, NY school classroom, talking to junior high kids about the integrity of prominent rappers and the validity of their lyrics. Artists including T.I., Nas, and 50 Cent were quoted and openly discussed with sixth and seventh graders, who represent a large and overlooked fan base of impressionable young listeners. The video drew both praise and criticism, including responses from those within the Hip Hop industry.Add a comment
