"Streetwise, I've sold drugs since I was 9," said Love, who was raised in Washington, D.C. His mother, Melody Love, who now lives in Capitol Heights, Md., has been a crack addict since he was a child, Love said.

The story has a happy ending.

Music has provided the means for George Moss to communicate on a number of fronts. And with last week's release of his first solo CD, the Grand Rapids native has yet another outlet to display his passion for expressions of faith.

"It wasn't so much the music itself, why I got into it," Moss, 25, said from his Kentwood home. "It was an opportunity to grow and share my faith from that platform."

The Harvard Divinity School and Harambee, an organization for students of African descent, presented "The Hip-Hop and Religion Forum" as its final event to celebrate Black History Month. Six panelists from Islamic and Christian backgrounds discussed the effect of hip-hop on youth culture and perspectives on hip-hop varied from critical to enthusiastically supportive.

Christian disc jockey DJ Lady Grace opened the panel with a rap rhyme from Christian rap artist Corey Red to demonstrate her theory that musicians today should not do both religious and secular songs, because the genres convey contradictory messages.
