Teddy Bridgewater sidelined for 2016 NFL season by injury

When the Minnesota Vikings last took the field in January, they suffered a devastating playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The game was a defensive slugfest that was decided in the last half minute of play, when Vikings kicker Blair Walsh missed a 27-yard field goal. That kick would have certainly sealed a two-point victory for Minnesota, but they were only left with a loss and the heartbreak of what could have been.

The 2016 season was full of hope as some NFL commentators had picked the Vikings as their preseason Super Bowl favorites and quarterback Teddy Bridgewater as one of the league’s next breakout stars.

That hope did not last, as the Vikings were devastated again yesterday afternoon with news that Bridgewater went down in practice with a gruesome knee injury. Reports from the Viking practice facility say that Bridgewater’s knee gave out as he went back to pass. Teammates were visibly shaken as they immediately realized the severity of his injury and began to pray over the quarterback. Bridgewater was sedated and transported by ambulance to the hospital.

In a Vikings statement last night, team officials say Bridgewater suffered a dislocated kneecap, torn ACL and other structural damage, which will end his season even before it starts. Bridgewater, who is an avid Christian hip-hop fan and regularly finishes many of his tweets with a prayerful #CallGod, is in need of our prayers tonight as he begins a brutal road to recovery.
