Lamp Mode Teams with Rapzilla for Exclusive Free Download of Stephen the Levite’s ”Frienemies”

PHILADELPHIA, PA, Oct. 20– It’s Lamp Mode’s lyrical theologian, Stephen the Levite, like you’ve never heard him before. Sonically, the Cali-bred, Philly resident’s new album, Can I Be Honest?—slated for a Nov. 18 release—is a veritable feast for listeners’ ears.

The public will get its first taste of what he deems his most evolved, honest and musically mature work, on Tuesday, Oct. 21, through an exclusive Rapzilla.com leak and free download of the first official single, “Frienemies” ft. JGivens and Tragic Hero. Until now, the Lamp Mode team has kept a lid on details of Stephen the Levite’s latest offering, entrusting its first musical unveiling to Rapzilla, Christian Hip Hop’s premier web destination. “This is the album I’ve worked hardest on,” said Stephen the Levite, real name Darrell Bell, in a recent interview. “It’s been like a three-year process trying to make it here. I’ve put more of myself into this album than with the other projects.”

Known for delivering theological content, which the devoted husband and father says provides a clear and honest depiction of who he is, he further explained, “This is a different kind of honesty. It is a lot more personal and self-revealing, and mature.”

That maturation and openness gives Can I Be Honest? a higher level of relatability—a glimmer of which Tuesday’s downloaders of the nearly six-minute composition “Frienemies” will hear. The lead single is part of a holistic and soulful body of work, appealing to adults who understand challenging and often complex issues surrounding marriage and family, money, sex, temptation and life in general.

Among the myriad of Christian Hip Hop releases this year, there are few that are as open and honest as Stephen the Levite’s latest. “Why did I share these things? Because the truth is, as a lyrical theologian, at first, I thought it wasn’t necessary to share these things,” said Stephen the Levite. He then added, “But after pondering it, I believe, because we learn just as much from David’s life as we do from the Psalms, I thought that it was necessary to include these deeply personal things in my album.”
