Image“We’re trying to take it back to the old school roller skatin’ days,” says Just. “You know, the times when people would hear a song and are like ‘Yeah, that’s my joint’. We’re going to the club with this album. We’re going to the parties with this album…anywhere people want to have a good time is where we want this music to take us.”

…has a sound that will always surprise and never disappoint. This energetic and socially-conscious hip-hop duo is always trying to break the mold and push boundaries in a genre known for innovation.

Just.Live, a name that has been heard all over the underground circuit for years is coming in to their own musically and refusing to go unnoticed. This dynamic duo has a sound that will slap you in the face with phat beats and unapologetically thought provoking rhymes that are all about taking rap and hip-hop to a whole new level.

“We’re trying to take it back to the old school roller skatin’ days,” says Just. “You know, the times when people would hear a song and are like “Yeah, that’s my joint!”. We’re going to the club with this album. We’re going to the parties with this album…anywhere people want to have a good time is where we want this music to take us.”

In many ways the hip-hop duo, Just.Live are as different as night and day: Deris “Just” Morgan is from St. Paul, Minnesota and Courtney “Live” Richards is from East St. Louis, Illinois. Just enjoys the soulful sounds of Isaac Hayes, Curtis Mayfield and the legendary talent of the late hip-hop producer, J. Dilla, and “Live” has everyone from Ashley Simpson and Martina McBride to Wyclef Jean and U2 in his ipod. “Just” comes off as ultra-cool and mellow. Strong and silent is more his style; and if he can’t give the conversation justice, then he’d rather not say anything at all. “Live” is a live wire and fun is his middle name. No matter what the topic, he’s got an opinion and will not hesitate to share. No matter what the battle, in his own calculated and clever way, he is prepared to put up a good fight.

Just and Live go together like peanut butter and jelly. And when you blend these two contrary personalities together, a hue of unmistakable talent emerges that is unlike any other. At a time in rap when consciousness has given way to commercialism and integrity has sold out to the “dolla, dolla bill”, Just.Live is using their intelligent and clever lyrics, energetically-innovative music and morally grounded center to re-introduce what they call, “feel-good music” to the rap game.

“There’s no killin’ [in our music], but there are no altar calls either,” explains Live. In the hip-hop culture, rap is about what you do and how you live. Mos Def and Talib Kweli are considered to be conscious rappers. 50 Cent and The Game may be a little more controversial but they are speaking on their experiences; what they know. You can’t fault a man for what he knows. Our music is no different. We are using our skills to share what we know.”

In the span of their relatively short career, this group has managed to work with some noteworthy talent. Grammy nominated producers F. Darnell Davis and Dert (producer for KRS-One) have both offered their skills to the group. Also, they have shared the stage with the likes of tobyMac, Grits, Pigeon John, and MC Lyte. Performed at various festivals around the country: the Sonshine Music Festival (Ohio), Lifelight Music Festival (South Dakota) and for over 100,000 people at the Luis Palau Festival (Nebraska).

Currently Just. Just.Live is in the process of completing a new project, MOXY, due to drop Spring 2007. Guaranteed to take the music that Just.Live fans have come to know and love to a whole new level. Featuring songs like the club-ready hit Fresh, the song everyone will be singing Bolla Atcha Hoy and hook-heavy show-stopper So Ghetto. They are also working with producer and recording artist Liquidbeats, who will be featured on the high-energy radio-friendly track Superstar. Aside from their up coming project, Just.Live will also be featured on the upcoming itunes exclusive Compilation Speckled Goats II, with Dj Maj. They can currently be heard on their previous independent releases The Manual (2003) and Soul.Full.HIs.Story (2005), as well as Best of the Submission Volume 3 (Beatmart Records). As if that weren’t enough these two entrepreneurs are working to start their own record label soon by the name of décorMusic.

“We want to create hits that catch people totally off guard,” says Just. “Because we’re not following a pattern, it’s more difficult to say what we are trying to accomplish. It’s more about hearing it… [we are] two guys who want to be a light in a dark place and have fun while doing it.”
