GreenJade steps down from MOBO Award Nomination

UK hip-hop quintet GreenJade has stepped down from this year’s MOBOs Award after being nominated in the Best Gospel category. The London-based group wrote a letter to MOBOs officials  to be removed from the nomination’s list. The group  said its request has now been granted by officials.

Talking to UB1, group member Wizdom said being nominated for a MOBO award in the Gospel category “caused a concern” because of the sensitive school work the group does through the Gunz Down community project. The project involves going into schools, some different in religious beliefs, and addressing the issue of gun and knife crime.

“We are honoured to be considered for a nomination but  it  may conflict with our work in schools. We don’t want anything getting in the way of that,” explained Wizdom. The group has instead stated it will pledge its support and vote to Jahaziel, a fellow hip-hop artist on this year’s MOBO list.

“We’ll be voting for J,” said Wizdom. “He’s a real ambassador for Christian hip-hop.” *GreenJade is back in the schools for the Gunz Down tour from 6 October. For more information see: www.gunzdown.com
