Indie Rapper, Man of War, Launches War Records

After a brief hiatus from the hip-hop spotlight, Man of War returns with his own label, War Records. He spent the last few years touring, recording and finding new talent that’s ready to impact urban listenership.

“They are humble, God-fearing artists,” Man of War says. “It’s unrestricted Christian music with a rugged line. God is woven into the lyrics.”

As an artist on the San Diego-based label Syntax Records, Man of War was already at the top of his game with albums like 10 Horn Daggers and Love and War . He toured all across the U.S. and as far as the Cayman Islands, ministering and performing in prisons, on stages and everywhere in between. With all his success on the Syntax label, he felt the call branch out on his own.

“I developed relationships with dope emcees and producers all over… it was time to build a strong family – not just a label, but something that was more than contracts and statistics,” he says. “I called my peeps and shared my vision. It was simple. ‘Let’s come together and create music for our God.'”

The Californian rapper credits his time with Syntax as the training ground he needed to launch his own label.

“Man of War is one of the hardest working emcees I know,” says Syntax Records President Tim Trudeau. “It’s exciting to be working with him again. War Records is going to fill that niche of left-field intelligent underground hip hop that has been bone dry lately.” “I enjoy the process of pouring into artists,” Man of War adds. “It’s discipleship. I get to sow into their music, ministry and grow creativity. It’s not just a business. I’m doing what I should do: fulfilling God’s will.”

On War Records, fans of Man of War will see him take the crazy flows they are used to and make them digestible to a wider audience. The first release, Waging War , will feature exclusive new music from his never-before-heard crew of War recording artists. Dropping March 1, the compilation record is a blend of hip-hop, soul and R&B music showcasing the array of talent that War Records has to offer and is available for pre-order at iTunes now, http://bit.ly/dENAMG.
