New Book Highlight’s the Son of Sam’s Transformation to Christianity

In the realm of true crime, where monsters often lurk in the shadows, Dr. Michael Caparelli’s latest book, “Monster Mirror: 100 Hours with David Berkowitz, Once Known as Son of Sam,” seeks to shatter preconceptions and explore the depths of humanity hidden behind the notorious serial killer.

“A fascinating, helpful exploration of one of America’s most frightening killers. It’s easy to call people bad. It’s not easy to ask, why. I highly recommend this book,” said Dr. Daniel Amen, Founder of Amen Clinics.

The book takes readers on a journey into the mind of David Berkowitz, infamous as the Son of Sam, responsible for a series of murders that terrorized New York City in the 70s. Contrary to the monster portrayed in the media, Caparelli presents Berkowitz as a fellow human being, diving into his vulnerabilities and the complexities that led to his heinous crimes.

Throughout the book, Dr. Caparelli shares insights gained from his extraordinary 100-hour case study, conducting 34 sessions with Berkowitz himself. The narrative takes a look at his transformation with a deep dive into the mental health and factors behind the crimes. Then it highlights Berkowitz’s evolution since his conversion in 1988.

A noteworthy aspect of Caparelli’s research is the inclusion of a session featuring Michael Franzese, a former mobster in the Colombo crime family turned believer. He even provides the forward of the book.

“Monster Mirror” is not just a true crime exposé but a revelation of the human spirit’s capacity for transformation. Dr. Caparelli invites readers to rethink their perceptions, prompting a compassionate understanding of the man behind the infamous moniker—the Son of Sam.
