Von Won on Catchy Chorus, Tedashii, & Secular Artist Collabs

Artist Von Won spoke to Rapzilla at SXSW about writing hooks and working with secular artists.

He explained that for eight years he worked in secular music and for eight years he’s done gospel. “I really don’t recommend that every artist go out there and work with secular artists,” he he explained. He did say that it takes a certain artist who is strong spiritually to be able to go that route.

Won also explained how he comes up with good choruses. “If the hook is really strong then you don’t even need verses. It’s like the icing on the cake.”

He then shared which of his songs contains his favorite hook, which was hard for him to narrow down.

Won said some of his better hooks contain collaborations with other artists.

The emcee said that Tedashii’s “Jumped Out the Whip” chorus is currently his favorite, and he even gets the whole family moving to it.
