Capital Kings talk unique sound, signing with TobyMac, collabing with KB

Rapzilla recently interviewed Washington, D.C. natives Jon White and Cole Walowac of the electronic dance music duo Capital Kings as they toured with DJ Promote and NF on The Drop Tour.

White and Walowac talked about how they combined their individual artistic styles to create the sound of Capital Kings, as well as how they landed with the TobyMac-founded Gotee Records. White said TobyMac was a huge influence on him growing up.

“[TobyMac] was basically all I was allowed to listen to,” White said. “It was like, ‘You can listen to TobyMac, or DC Talk back in the day. You can listen to Audio Adrenaline,’ those types of groups. But at that time … they were rebels in the industry, so I don’t know. They spoke to me at that time. I would say they’re one of the reasons why I’m in music.”

They also shared the story behind their song “Northern Sky” featuring KB, which premiered on Rapzilla.

“We knew we wanted to get a rapper on it,” Walowac said. “We were thinking about who we wanted, and then we knew we wanted someone from the Reach camp, though. And we were really into KB and what he’s all about right now. I just think he’s killing it.”

Capital Kings’s latest album, II, released on Oct. 2. Buy it on iTunes, and watch their full interview below.
