Kambino talks new projects, his burden to address social issues in music

Rapzilla recently interviewed Columbus-based rapper Kambino about what he’s been up to since he released his last album, Independence, in July 2013.

“Life is what I’ve been up to,” Kambino said. “A lot of growing, a lot of taking care of the kids and watching them grow, and getting everything solid with me and wifey, and making sure that that foundation was set good, and fixing patches where it wasn’t set good to make sure that life was good.

“And now that life is getting better, now I’m starting to really get the itch to get back into the music.”

Kambino revealed that he has two mixtapes finished but isn’t sure if he’ll release them. He did say more music is coming, though. And Kambino previewed what the subject matter of that music may be.

“I think that there are plenty of people who are making music to edify the body,” he said. “I think there are plenty of people who are making music that the kids can jump around to and all that kind of stuff. But when I turn on the TV or I talk to different people and I see a lot of the things that are happening in the world, I think a lot of those subjects have been untouched — just social issues and things of that nature.”
