Da’ T.R.U.T.H. & Dr. Ravi Zacharias Address 7 Hot-Button Christian Questions

Da’ T.R.U.T.H.’s latest album, It’s Complicated, released June 3, aims to tackle the toughest questions facing Christianity, and he enlists the help of theologian Dr. Ravi Zacharias.

The pair sat in front of the camera together to answer some pressing questions that are addressed on T.R.U.T.H.’s album.

The first segment, “Faith Under Fire,” talks about former Christian emcee Jahaziel’s comments about leaving the faith.

The ex-Christian did not necessarily bash Christianity and first admitted all of the things that he loved about it. He then listed all of the things he disagreed with or found fault with.

Da’ T.R.U.T.H., didn’t mention any names, but of course knew and ministered with him so it was especially close to home for him.

One of Jahaziel’s arguments was about the amount of bloodshed Christianity has led to with the crusades among other things listed.

The theologian said while Christianity has indeed shed a lot of blood, “Atheism” has shed the most. He listed the millions killed under Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Napoleon, and countless dictators who slaughtered their own people as well as others.

He then addressed statements about some of the issues in the Old Testament (slavery, misogyny).

“When God gives us a law, he gives us for our own benefit,” Ravi said. He said that while many point to some of the extremes listed in the O.T., they overlook the forgiveness, the healing, and the sanctification of those who do the will of God.

The next portion talks about Christianity being a “copycat” religion.

“All religions at best are superficially similar, but they are fundamentally different,” Ravi said. “The gospel is so unique that there is nothing like it.”

The historical aspects of the Jews and the Egyptians are good enough to show us the accuracy of what happened in the Old Testament.

Dr. Ravi shared a story about a man he met in Egypt. The man told him that he thinks the country has been spared the craziness of the Middle East because of Moses leading the people, Joseph working with the king, and Jesus seeking safety. He believes Egypt has become a holy ground because of all the connections with the Jews.

Speaking more on religion verse myth brought him to this C.S. Lewis quote about the Bible as a historic book: “When I read mythology, I know I’m reading mythology. When I’m reading history, I know I’m reading history.”

Zacharias said the best examples of the truths in the Bible come from the historical prophecies from the book of Daniel.

The next subject talked about the differences between Christianity and Islam.

“Islam is not monolithic,” said the theologian. He said the religion is too divided among itself to even have one decisive belief. He believes this war within themselves is what makes Muslim countries unstable.

He also noted that Islam is the only religion or historical text from the day that does not include Jesus dying on the cross.

“Mixed Signals” goes into further detail about the Old and New testament and whether they cause confusion.

“Is There a Hell?” is self-explanatory. Da’ T.R.U.T.H. spoke about how most people believe and wish for a heaven, but no one addresses Hell. Even the worst people are thought of as in a “better place.”

“We cry out for justice because we believe it is a good thing,” he Ravi said in regards to there being an end to our means. “If it’s not a good thing, evil has conquered.”

In other words, he’s saying, if there is no Hell, then what’s stopping people from killing and seeking vengeance if they could just end their life with no consequence when they’re done.

“It’s an irrational distribution of accountability,” he said. “You have it God’s way, or you have it your way.”

He continued, “If I didn’t believe in the reality of Hell, I don’t think I would be in this ministry.”

“Hell to me is the absence of God.”

The rapper and the scholar then spoke about the church and judging people.

“I hear what people are saying,” Dr. Zacharias admitted. “The church has become too judgmental. We have not made it a place where those who’ve gone wrong can return and be corrected.”

He then spoke about the judgment we as Christians place on ourselves and how we should look to be judged by God.

The final portion of the video spoke about the marriage vow and love. Dr. Zacharias spoke about trying to understand the love of God in sacrifice and commitment.

The two wrapped up the session in prayer, and ultimately placed hours and hours of conversation into a small window. Hopefully, these two link up again in the future to answer and go in depth on even more questions.
