‘Are You Down with the DC Talk?’

“TobyMac, and the Mac is back no slack/ On a DC track that’s jacked, beyond comprehension…” wait a minute…

In case you missed it, (and yes, we are two days late, but we’ll tie it in nicely, just wait), DC Talk just may very well be coming back!

The group that went on an indefinite “Intermission” roughly 15-years ago, has finally given the CCM hopeful the first glimmer of a reunion. Yes, a DCT reunion that has been suggested, hinted, and thoroughly “talked” about by all three members for over a decade.

Since 2000, TobyMac has just about equaled or perhaps even surpassed DCT’s stardom with his solo career churning out hit after hit. Michael Tait did his solo thing for awhile before getting together with the Newsboys to replace longtime frontman Peter Furler. Kevin Max has continued to create art-experimental pop/rock at a rapid pace and even had a brief stint as Audio Adrenaline’s frontman.

So what’s all this hype about? Well DC Talk has taken a liking to their usually dormant Facebook over the last several weeks. They’ve been posting old trailers, concert clips, and pictures. Then on May 3, the bombshell, a cryptic photo that just read “2017.” The following day, a banner image that reads “DCTALK.COM May 11, 2016, 12pm EST/11am CST.” Basically, it’s going down!

On May 11th, we find out if it’s one show, a tour, or an album. Perhaps it’s a “Making the Band” documentary special, who knows. It appears that Kevin Max is enjoying himself as he is the only one that has liked, shared, or been vocal about these updates. He’s not saying a word, though.

“And now we come to the payoff!”

Rapzilla’s comment on the image saying “You guys better rap!” got over 300 likes. No doubt there will be some rap if they are doing live shows. If it’s a new record, some “real” rap is less likely as Toby has stated in several interviews that he “leans” toward rap but wouldn’t consider himself a rapper. He does a lot of singing and some reggae type vocals now.

Even their last two records, Jesus Freak and Supernatural were pretty much devoid of any rap. Regardless, they are pioneers in the Christian rap genre and without them and their influence, many of today’s artists may not be where they are today.

Now, let’s throw it back to a simpler time when Fresh Prince stylized music videos and Doobie Brother’s covers were all the rage.

“I Luv Rap Music”

“Jesus is Just Alright”

“Jesus Freak”

What do you think the announcement will be? What are some of your favorite DC Talk jams?
